Thursday, April 25 marks the 12th annual D428 Wellness Fair. From 6-8 p.m. families can attend this fun and free event at the DeKalb High School Field House located at 501 West Dresser road.
Jefferson Physical Education teacher and District 428 K-8 Physical Education Coordinator, Kelly Zerby has been in charge of the event for the past 3 years and before her, Steve Bell. Once run by the now dissipated District Wellness Committee, Kelly Zerby organizes the entire event herself. She reaches out to community vendors and businesses, inviting them to attend and share information about their local resources. The objective of the fair is to bring the community together for a wellness event at a DeKalb School. Although it has become more of an elementary friendly student event, families of all ages are welcome to attend and learn about different wellness opportunities in our community.
Mrs. Zerby receives a monetary donation from Northwestern Hospital for prizes for the students who attend. She asks D428 PE teachers to market it to their students. As the kids travel around the fair, they have a scavenger hunt card to get signed at each table. There are engaging activities and cool demonstrations from the DeKalb Park District, YMCA, martial arts groups and performing dancers.
Come out on Thursday for this fun, family friendly event! https://wellnessfair428.weebly
