As winter approaches each year, the DeKalb Park District Sports and Recreation Center gears up to serve as an indoor recreation destination for the DeKalb community and beyond. Opened in 2000, the Sports and Rec Center features a large fieldhouse with field turf, two gymnasiums, as well as activity and dance rooms.
The Sports and Rec Center is host to indoor soccer leagues, basketball leagues, and a variety of programing offered through the Park District. Over the years, the Sports & Rec Center has also been used to meet the indoor athletic needs of groups including the DeKalb School District, Northern Illinois University, Kishwaukee College, and private sports clubs.
The versatility of the Sports and Rec Center lends itself to a variety of activities. Each weekend from November through March, the facility is bustling with thousands of participants and spectators visiting for basketball and soccer league competition. Throughout the week, other activities such as indoor softball, lacrosse, pickleball, indoor walking, and fitness classes are held.
“The Sports and Rec Center is a great asset for the DeKalb community. The facility and programs are examples of the vision and commitment the DeKalb Park District has for providing top-quality recreation to area residents. It is part of what makes us #ProudlyDeKalb”, said Scott deOliveira, Marketing Supervisor for the DeKalb Park District.
