Mark your calendar for the first-ever Museum Day in DeKalb County. On Saturday, museums and historical societies throughout DeKalb County will partner to be open on the same day. People will have the opportunity to see some local treasures in the north, central and south parts of DeKalb County.
Museum Day is being held in conjunction with the DeKalb County History Center’s Grand Opening. The center will feature a traveling Smithsonian exhibit “Crossroads: Change in Rural America.” While the center will be the host for this exhibit, additional displays will be found throughout the county at many of the locations participating in Museum Day.
“We are very excited about Museum Day,” MichelleDonahoe, executive director of the DeKalb County History Center, said in a news release. “This is a great way for our local history organizations to show off their unique collections and share the diverse stories connected to DeKalb County’s history.”
Participating museums include: Northern Illinois University’s Blackwell History of Education Museum, Ellwood House Museum, Joseph F. Glidden Homestead and Historical Center, Hinckley Historical, Kirkland Historical Society, Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society, Midwest Museum of Natural History, North Grove School Association, NIU’s Pick Museum of Anthropology, Sandwich Historical Society, Shabbona-Lee-Rollo Historical Museum and the Waterman Area Heritage Society.
