It began as a discussion on David Bell’s “You Know You’re From DeKalb, When” Facebook group page. DeKalb elementary school teacher Cate Cardella then put words into action and organized a 2018 Downtown DeKalb Clean-up Day.
More than 60 volunteers showed up on a Sunday afternoon to clean debris from the old central business district. First ward alderman David Jacobson brought 15 or so guys from Sigma Alpha Mu, Gamma Lambda Chapter to help with the removal of mountains of trash.
Local businesses including FunMe Events, Cracker Jax, Shepard Construction, Sports of All Sorts, Lincoln Inn, Tapa La Luna, Gordon’s Hardware, SunDog IT and the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce sponsored with prizes and assistance.
On a warm, Spring-like (at last) Sunday a group of volunteers made massive impact on the Downtown area and in community pride.
Well done.
